DAVID CAPEL - Northants and England and former Northants Head Coach.
During the past decade it has been a pleasure to work alongside Ian at Northants cricket. In his role as a specialist batting coach he has been responsible for bringing on our best young players and has instilled all the solid fundamentals in terms of technique and tactical game plans.
I have no hesitation in recommending Ian as a top class batting coach who consistently delivers high quality and standards in this specialist field. Ian has also coached our youth teams between U13 - U16 with a good record of success.
NICK COOK - Leicestershire Northamptonshire and England and current 1st class umpire.
I played professional cricket with Ian for Leicestershire in the 80s. Much more recently though i have coached with him on many occasions and would recommend him to anyone.
He has passed his coaching badges, but more importantly Ian is enthusiastic, knowledgeable on all aspects of the game and he has a great rapport with pupil and parent alike.
NICK BECKETT - Barnes C.C.
My son is 11 years old and has been playing hard ball cricket for just over one season at Barnes cricket club. I was aware of Butch from his reputation and was pleased when I found out that he doing some consultancy work there. Unfortunately with the size of the club we did not secure him solely for the u10's but it was evident the vast knowledge and experience he had to offer to the boys. We were keen to keep the cricket going outside of the season and put Charlie into various set cricket nets. These were ok but it only offered the boys a chance to bat and bowl in the nets.
Myself and four other dads decided to try and get something that would be a bit more useful for the boys and spoke to Butch about getting a training programme that would be benificial for the boys. We started the training programme just over two months ago and I cannot comment highly enough how beneficial it has been for the boys. I have been impressed in how he has analysed each of the boys with video technology and quickly identified where the boys needed work. He offered sensible and practical solutions and we have seen the improvement almost immediately. The quality of the bowling and batting we are witnessing is truly special. He has made the technical aspects of the game fun and the boys are learning techniques that will set them up for the rest of their cricketing lives.
The boys spend their week looking forward to their friday night sessions and I believe that this is testiment to Butch that he can keep the boys fully engaged at all times, even when they are doing the methodical work!! He even keeps the dads interested with his experience as a professional cricketer. In fact I wish I had that level of coaching when I was younger. We are currently in discussions with Butch about keeping these sessions going through the cricket season and beyond
KEVIN BARRETT - Richmond C.C.
Ian Butcher worked with Richmond Cricket Club's first team squad for the whole of the 2012 season. Butch orchestrated our sessions in a professional, fun and engaging manner. His vast knowledge, experience and ideas he shared with the squad were instrumental in the side's successful season, gaining promotion and reaching the county cup final. His creative, yet highly modern training plans challenged the players to think about the game and develop in ways they may have not previously considered - whether this be one-on-one batting drills, group fielding sessions, etc. Every one of the players that trained under Butch's supervision thoroughly enjoyed the experience and I hope the club can continue the arrangement for many years to come.
TOM FAHY - Captain: Barnes 3rd X1
"I have seen real progression in my cricket since working with Butch. He is great at getting his ideas across and finding ways to demonstrate skills so that they stick. Butch makes his training sessions challenging, but also entertaining and rewarding. He is enthusiastic about the sport and always happy to share his insight into the finer points of the game. I often recommend Butch to fellow players and colts' parents - his is a quality coach who is serious about getting results."
